Matungulu lawmaker Stephen Mule wants the Machakos County Government to disburse more bursary funds to enable needy students to access education.
While briefing journalists at his office, the MP said that many needy students have missed out on bursaries due to insufficient funds disbursed.
He said the county must supplement the bursary budget so that students can further their education.
“Machakos government should contribute to the bursary kitty to help more students’ access education,” he said.
Mule further asked the county government to support programmes that will improve education standards.
He said that education in the county remains poor as a result of poor infrastructure and inadequate learning materials.
Mule also asked the county government to sponsor students taking vocation training at various institutions in the county.
He observed that students who perform poorly in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) join polytechnics but lack funds to further their studies.
