Council of Governors Chair Isaac Ruto has called upon the government to add more funds to the counties to make sure that the education sector is uplifted.
The governor, speaking during the 2 annual devolution conference held at Tom Mboya Labour Collage in Kisumu County, claimed that they are receiving meagre allocations from the treasury which is not enough to handle a sections of devolved education sector.
He cited that in this financial year 2014/15, they were given Sh3 billion to support the constructions of Early Childhood classrooms and the recruitment of early childhood development and development (ECDE) tutors whereby each county was to receive Sh60 million for those functions.
"We are getting meagre shares to support the early childhood development hence am requesting the treasury to add us more funds to speed up the devolution progress," said Ruto.
He however added that polytechnics are also left behind as they are getting Sh946 million to handle it thus making them not reach the goals of devolution.
He thus noted that for the counties to work effectively then the government should realize the need of additional of funds.
Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta who officially opened the conference urged governors to help him in fighting corruption at the county levels.
"I am busy fighting corruption nationally therefore I will not tolerate any governor who is dancing to the tune of corruption," said the president.
The conference was attended by all 47 governors, senators and the members of county assemblies.
