Residents of Gachuba ward have been asked to allow the construction of Bonyunyu dam to start because donors are ready to disburse the funds.

According to Lake Victoria Water Services board director Victor Omanwa, residents should allow the project to start because it will benefit them.

"Projects that will have our problems solved should be allowed. Donors funding the Bonyunyu dam water project are ready to give the funds but they want to be assured that the locals have stopped protests," he said.

Omanwa noted that the government will compensate the residents who will be moved from the land where the project will be constructed.

"The government will not give a deaf ear to calls by residents to be compensated. Residents should give us a go ahead so that we start the project which will help in water supply in the area," said Omanwa.

He challenged area leaders to help in persuade the residents opposed to the project to drop their hard stance and allow the construction of the multi-billion project to start.

"Area leaders should intervene and help in urging locals to accept the project to go on otherwise, donors will stop funding the project," he added.
