President Uhuru Kenyatta has accused the opposition of trying to hold the country hostage in their bid to promote their selfish-interests.
The President who spoke Wednesday after inaugurating the Volkswagen production facility at the Kenya Vehicle Manufacturers in Thika town said the 2017 polls must be peaceful because it will affect the lives of all Kenyans.
“We must have peaceful, free and transparent elections next year. This issue of every time when we have elections some people try to hold the country hostage must stop,” President Kenyatta as quoted by kbctv.co.ke.
"Elections are for the over 40 million Kenyans not just a few people who want to advance their narrow and selfish intentions by trying to cause chaos every time we have elections,” he added
Uhuru insisted that Kenyans were tired of the constant rhetoric by the opposition and that Kenyans needed an election that will give them a government of their choice.
“We want an election that will enable Kenyans to form the government that they want and nobody will prevent that,” Uhuru said.
The president also insisted that he will not be detracted by the insults by the opposition, but will continue with his development agenda across the country.
