Governor Hassan Joho has expressed confidence he will triumph against his competitors for the seat of governor in 2017.
Joho said all indicators show he wields support in the Coastal county and will therefore be re-elected governor during the polls.
"I will be gunning for the seat of governor, but am not worried because my analysis shows I enjoy majority support and I have the people's backing," he said on Friday.
"So those claiming that I will be Raila Odinga's running mate do not know what they are saying. Besides campaigning for myself to retain my seat, I will be traversing the entire country campaigning for Raila."
He spoke amid speculation that the former Kisauni MP's rising popularity targets at deputising Mr Odinga in 2017.
"I am dedicating my efforts to make my party ODM more vibrant and ready to take over power next year," he added.
"Let my intentions not be misunderstood. I have no intention of being our party leader's running mate. We are all committed to a united Cord coalition."
So far, Joho has campaigned in the counties of Nairobi and Kisumu marketing ODM and Mr Odinga presidential candidature in 2017.
