An ambulance driver employed by Kisii county government was today fined Sh30, 000 or serves six months in jail after he admitted charges of driving while drunk.
John Kenanda who was arraigned before a Kisii court, was charged that on April 15th 2016, at Daraja Mbili market along Kisii-Migori highway he was found driving the county ambulance while under the influence of alcohol.
Kenanda who appeared before resident magistrate Eric Mageto pleaded guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor Aloo Rodgers told the court that the accused endangered lives of the traders at Daraja Mbili market by reckless driving.
Aloo said the driver was arrested and taken to Kisii Central police station where he was tested and found to have had high levels of alcohol in his blood.
In mitigation, he pleaded for leniency saying it was his first offense and he had a young family which depends on him.
