The ambulance driver killed by a land mine in Garissa on Monday has finally been laid to rest.
Abey Sheikh was laid to rest on Tuesday at the Garissa Muslim Cemetery.
Family members, colleagues, friends and acquaintances filled the Garissa Referral Hospital Mortuary on Tuesday morning to collect the body of the deceased.
The family also received a post-mortem before the body was released for burial in accordance with Islamic practices.
Sheikh had accompanied his colleague, Farah Abdi, also a driver attached to Garissa Hospital, to deliver medical supplies to Hulugho Sub-county Hospital where he met his untimely death.
Abdi together with Ahmed Kassim, a health worker, suffered soft tissue injuries in the attack. However, the nurse in charge noted that the duo is in stable condition but Abdi could be referred to Nairobi for more specialised medical care.
