American Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has unveiled a junior basketball challenge pitting players under the age of 14 in Machakos County.

The championship is geared to creating awareness about the existence of the game within the County with an aim of promoting it to big heights.

According to Godec, basketball within Kenya has not grown to a big level across different counties and through junior championships, a great number of young players will be nurtured.

"I really want to promote the game of basketball to higher levels. Machakos County is one of the most developed counties in Kenya and so I decided to start a one-day challenge for children under the age of 14," said Godec.

He reiterated that his intention is also to promote sports tourism in Machakos County bearing in mind that the County has a readily available stadium.

The one-day basketball challenge will be held this Saturday at Machakos Kenyatta stadium and will feature young players below the age of 14.

This is the first time the American Ambassador to Kenya has unveiled this kind of a championship and more is expected in the near future.
