African women leaders attending the African Women Leaders Symposium at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi have called on the society to support women in elective posts. The women argued that women had the same capacity just as their male counterparts to act as governors, senators or even MCAs. Speaking at the symposium on Wednesday 24, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed called on all women to support each other towards realising their leadership goals. "We, as women, must begin to trust women leadership. We must develop the courage to vote for women as governors, senators and in all the other great elective posts," said Amina. In the forum, it was discussed that such forums are important as they give women a chance to discuss their issues. Amina Mohamed also added that it was baseless to convene such forums but continue looking down upon the leadership of women. All the women present were asked to start supporting one of their own to enable their male counterparts to start believing in them. Other female leaders present in the symposium included former Justice Minister Martha Karua, Oxfam International Director Winnie Byanyima, Vice President of African Development Bank Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi and constitutional lawyer Betty Murungi among other women leaders.
