Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed's bid for the African Union Commission chair has been welcomed by a section of leaders across the continent.

This is after President Uhuru Kenyatta held talks with a section of African leaders to drum up support for Amina on the sidelines of AU special summit in Lome, Togo on Maritime Security and Safety and Development in Africa.

The leaders included Presidents Faure Gnassingbé (Togo), Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta (Mali), Alpha Condé (Guinea), John Dramani Mahama (Ghana) andIdriss Déby (Chad) who is also the Chairman of AU.

Others were Presidents Alassane Ouattara (Ivory Coast), Denis Sassou Nguesso (Congo Brazzaville) and Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal of Algeria.

Two weeks ago, the government forwarded Amina's name for the position.

Under Amina's tenure, Kenya has hosted top conferences that were previously held outside the continent.
