Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has issued a stern warning to teachers who are still engaging in corporal punishment both in primary and secondary schools.
Mohamed speaking on Wednesday during a national conference on exam cheating said that teachers still engaging in the vice are not supposed to be in the profession.
"We all know that it is illegal for any teacher to engage in any form of corporal punishment but we are still hearing of such cases. It is unfortunate that those doing so are doing it in blatant disregard to the law," Mohammed said.
The CS criticized the incidence where a class one kid from Nyandarua County was brutally beaten up by three teachers leading to the tearing of his scrotum.
Mohammed said that the three ought not to be in the profession and that stern steps are going to be taken against them.
"It is disheartening and unfortunate that the 3 adults descended on five-year-old kid leading to his hospitalization. These are the kind of elements that we do not need in a profession that made all of us what we are today," she added.
She noted that those that feel that they do not fit in the school system are feel free to quit the profession. Amina also asked the teaching fraternity to speak strongly against the vice noting that many rarely speak about it.
