Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed has dismissed claims that her quest to become the chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) is aimed at helping Kenya withdraw from the International Criminal Court.
In an interview with Sunday Nation the CS said that pulling out of the Hague-based court was a sole responsibility of the individual sovereign member state and not a union.
"African Union Commission does not dictate to countries on such matters. In fact, the statute provides for procedures for both accession and withdrawal, these are not modified in any form by the commission," she said.
President Uhuru Kenyatta who has openly expressed his reservation over the manner in which the ICC carries out its work has been actively lobbying for Amina to win the position with others claiming that he wants the CS to assist the country cut links with the ICC should she win.
