Police have disputed a report alleging that officers killed some 33 people in the post-election protests across the country.

The report by Amnesty International claimed the deaths were caused by police firing bullets as they moved in to contain public unrest that sporadically erupted in NASA strongholds.

Most of the cases were reported in slum areas of Kibera, Kawangware, Mathare North and sections of Nyanza.

The 37-paged 'Kill Those Criminals: Security Forces' Violation in Kenya' report was released on Monday.

"We wish to refute the claims as totally misleading and based on falsehoods. We are studying the report and will issue a comprehensive report later," said police spokesperson George Kinoti in a statement.
