Community Health Volunteers from Kibera have launched a free medical checkup exercise for high blood pressure for Kibera residents.
The volunteers are working in conjunction with the African Medical Research Foundation.
The exercise took place at the Deputy County Commissioner's grounds in Kibera on Tuesday where many residents turned up for the exercise.
Speaking to this reporter after check up, Anne Wanyonyi who hails from Makina expressed her joy terming the exercise the best way to help slum residents.
"We think we are very well and do not want to see a doctor but things cannot be as we are thinking," she said.
"Blood pressure cannot be seen like other diseases whose symptoms are visible. It is a challenge that all Kibera residents should come and be checked since it is free."
Lexie Were too said although he was found to be suffering from high blood pressure, he has been well told and advised on how to reduce it.
"I have been told to do a lot of exercises and take water in plenty. Although I will have to come back tomorrow for the second check up to see if it has reduced or not. The nurse also told me to relax which is true. I think a lot maybe that is the cause of my pressure rising," said Lexie.
