Amref Africa has launched a fund drive in its efforts geared towards raising money meant to stop new Cholera infections in Mandera.
The initiative comes at a time when there happens to be a huge outbreak of water-borne diseases that have so far claimed the lives of over fifteen people. Other hundreds of casualties are under medication at different medical health centers across the county which are battling with the overflowing numbers of patients.
In what has been termed as the biggest ever disease outbreak in the area, Mandera County has also been hard hit with the Dengue and Chikungunya fevers.
Amref Africa says its fund drive seeks to raise over Sh25m (US$250,000) for the #StopCholeraInMandera campaign.
“The situation in Mandera is dire and we urgently need to contain it before more people perish. We request for your help to save ailing lives” read a plea posted by Amref on their Facebook page.
The money collected will solely be used to set up short term facilities to accommodate the huge number of casualties as the surrounding hospitals are already crowded. However, the humanitarian agency seeks to purchasing water treatment products and also availing medical equipment necessary for diagnosis.
