If the Marabou Stalks along Nyayo Stadium could talk, they would say that traffic in Nairobi has a pattern.

It is the most from the 25th of any month, up until around the 12th of the next.

Why?

Very simple.

Employed Nairobians are paid every end month beginning the 25th. I hear some state employees get paid on the 22nd. They are the lucky ones…depending on your perspective.

For the rest, their monthly salaries kick into their bank account from the 28th. I say kick because such deposits are accompanied by an SMS alert on your mobile phone to announce its entry.

Nairobians will then proceed, as usual, to fuel their car that has been parked in the driveway when the pockets were less fat.

It is this fueling of vehicles when salaries kick in, that prompts us to proceed to use our vehicles.

We feel rich! We feel good! We feel alright! We listen to Classic fm in our own rides and not a matatu!

We all decide to drive to work!

What I’d like to challenge Nairobians is to help ease congestion during end-month.

How?

By utilizing the numerous taxi hailing apps in the market.

Some are very much affordable.
