An Ireland citizen, Amy Davis, has indicated that she is scheduled to travel to Nairobi's Kibera slums in July, 2016 in conjunction with a Newtownabbey-based Christian society to serve the slum residents.
Davis says that she has received her source of inspiration from Rachel Mukula and Fransuer. The latter was himself a long time street child in Nairobi before heading to Northern Ireland where he currently lives.
Speaking at a fundraiser organised by her parents in aid of the charity work, Davis commented that she is longing for her trip to Kenya this summer. She is headed for a Christian based outreach mission in Kibera. The 23-year old lady will be working together with a team of church volunteers on the July Jengana trip in supporting a variety of projects that are not limited to assisting in teaching in schools, working in children's homes with abandoned babies, and engaging in home visits to vulnerable and struggling families in the slum housing project.
They will arrive in Kenya on July 16 and return back to their North Ireland home on August 3rd.
In news posted on 'Newtobabbey Times', an Ireland version of news website, Davis hopes her skills as a teacher will be much applicable to her once she lands in the slums. She said her mission will give her insights to the challenges faced by children in the Kenyan slums.
