I write this letter with bitterness.
Fifty years since independence, Mombasa residents have nothing to smile about.
All candidates vying for the woman rep position should know that we are tired of gimmicks and propaganda.
Mombasa County has lagged behind due to poor leadership, and we as residents of this beautiful coastal city, are tired of chanting songs of praise for leaders only for them to hide behind parliamentary privileges upon election.
Today, the Mombasa girl child is still a victim of rape. Who will save our girls from these inhuman acts?
It kills me to note that rapists are freed because of insufficient evidence. It is more saddening to realize that there are some parents who collude with rapists to hamper justice efforts.
Who will empower the girl child?
When it comes to elections, you will shed tears to realize that most women do not take part in the exercise. Do these women have a right to complain about poor leadership?
Traversing the streets of Mombasa, you will find Mama mboga lamenting about poor working conditions, harassment and insecurity among other issues.
Who will transform Mama mboga to Mama Duka?
As you move around the county asking residents to stand behind you, ensure that you have good plans for women in the county.
