Political commentator Ambrose Weda now says that opposition leader Raila Odinga is set for a victory should he face-off with Deputy President William Ruto in the 2022 presidential contest.
Speaking on KBC English Service Wednesday, the commentator claimed that Odinga is better placed to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta basing on their recent truce, noting that he is set for the President's endorsement.
He, however, stated that the veteran politician will have to maintain their good relationship in a bid to win the President and his supporters' hearts to get their backing in return.
According to Weda, another fallout with the President will be a big blow to the former Prime Minister, saying that the head of state will retaliate by keeping his initial promise to back his Deputy, paralyzing the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader's candidature and consequently strengthening Ruto's bid.
''Raila Odinga will beat Ruto hands down in 2022 based on their renewed friendship with President Kenyatta but he has to avoid another fallout with because the President will simply react by endorsing his deputy,'' said Weda.
He further lauded Odinga's ongoing re-branding mission, terming it a success.
''He is a creative politician who has turned himself into a soft-spoken leader and is also set to win Kenyans hearts as a result of his endorsement of the ongoing national healing campaign. Ruto is on the other hand set disadvantaged as his allies are opposed to the campaign which seeks to benefit the entire nation,'' he added.
