Kisii political analyst George Omanga has reacted to Nyamira’s Governor John Nyagarama’s call for the formation of one political party to champion the region's interests.
The analyst says the move will curtail democracy and development in the region and result in dictatorship.
He says the move is selfish, meant to maintain power and shrug off competition which is healthy and called on the leaders and residents not to yield to his calls.
“Leaders will start sleeping on their jobs since one is assured of his or her position. Competition is healthy to ensure every politician is on their toe,” he says.
According to the governor, the move will allow for a better bargaining power in Gusii so that the interests of the community are catered for.
Omanga says the move will see the community lose a watchdog that fight for the people’s rights.
“This is dictatorship in the making. The moment we merge into one political party then we are doomed since no one will be left to challenge the politicians who will misappropriate funds at their own disposal and leave the common mwananchi suffering since they have no voice,” he says.
