Political analyst and renowned lawyer Ambrose Weda has said that the opposition will retain the vacant Migori senatorial seat.

This follows the death of the former Senator Ben Oluoch Okello, who died while undergoing cancer treatment at the MP Shah hospital in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Speaking on Wednesday at KBC English Service, Weda noted that the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) side has every reason to retain the post.

"The position has always been in the hands of the opposition through ODM and it will remain the same. As long as Raila Odinga is still around, the seat will always remain with him" he stated.

According to Weda, former Rongo Member of Parliament Dalmas Otieno is best placed to take over the post, if he decides to contest for it.

However, the commentator noted that Otieno, who was at some point involved in a scuffle with Odinga's party over his 'Kalausi' (whirlwind) movement, must first reconcile with the former Premier and his close lieutenants.

"I think Dalmas Otieno has the best chance of becoming the next Migori Senator but he will have to move closer to Raila," observed Weda.

Dalmas' attempt to defend his Rongo parliamentary seat failed when he lost to Paul Abuor in the last year's ODM nominations.
