The National Super Alliance (NASA) has been called upon to stop attacking President Uhuru Kenyatta for failing to attend the presidential debate held on Monday.
According to Political analyst Danstan Omari, the president had a moral obligation to appear for the debate for the sake of Kenyans and not NASA coalition.
Omari believes the attendance of the president was for Kenyans to seek answers about accountability from the government and what it will achieve if added another term in office.
"NASA has no right to attack the president for absconding the presidential debate. President Kenyatta was to attend the debate for the sake of Kenyans and not NASA and he was to give insights on accountability of his government. He should also have attended to tell Kenyans what he will be able to achieve if added another term in office," said Omari.
The analyst further noted that President Kenyatta may have skipped attending the debate due to 'personal attacks' during the 2013 debate.
In his view, Omari thinks the president was avoiding a repeat of the media asking him to explain his family's vast land wealth among other issues.
"The president may have skipped the meeting in reference to what happened in 2013. The media made 'personal attacks' against him where they dwelt more on the ICC issue and his vast land wealth rather than his manifesto. He (Uhuru) did not want a repeat of this," added Omari.
Omari made the remarks during an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday where he added that the failed promises made in 2013 by the Jubilee coalition may have contributed to the snubbing of the debate.
