Repossessing public land should have been their first priority. The timing isn't right because even when they have the right intentions but are seen to be targeting somebody who is interpreted to be politically wrong, suspicions are bound to come up," Kisiangani told Citizen TV's Opinion Court on Thursday. He, however, noted that it is within the commission's mandate to carry on with their duties as empowered by law."To me they seem to have gone to what the constitution empowers them to do because recently we had seen their powers usurped by the State where land CS directed the commission here and there which is very wrong. They are an independent commission," he added.Nevertheless, Lawyer Charles Kanjama welcomed the NLC move saying it will stamp out impunity that has reigned in the land sector for years."There was this assumption that once you grab a piece of land it can never be reversed because you will sell it on. This is a positive thing that we are beginning to see that there are situations where titles can be revoked and of course NLC have the constitutional backing," Kanjama said.
