The cordial relationship between ODM leader Raila Odinga and his deputy Hassan Joho is the reason behind the jitters in Cord, political analyst Gideon Mamboleo has noted.
Both Raila and Joho have been touring the country drumming support for the Orange party leading to complaints from Cord co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula.
According to Mamboleo, the steady rise of Mombasa Governor Joho has made the other partners uncomfortable with both focusing on the 2022 polls.
“Kalonzo and Wetangula may not be having issues with Raila running against Uhuru in 2017 because of his advanced age. Their real issue lies with Joho whom they fear Raila could be grooming for 2022,” he said.
Mamboleo added: “they both see Joho as a potential threat and perhaps that is why we have seen them responding in rallies. It’s true that Joho’s steady rise would impede a Kalonzo or Wetangula presidency given his wealthy and perhaps Raila’s support in 2022.”
Both Kalonzo and Wetangula have publically accused the ODM which is being steered by Raila of allegedly undermining their contribution to Cord.
