A political analyst has expressed concerns over the political grandstanding exhibited by the NASA and Jubilee political affiliations over the October 17 repeat polls.
Prof Edward Kisiangani has said that the hard line stance taken by the two camps in regards to the polls was dangerous to the country that is still reeling from the nullified August 8 elections.
Kisiangani said while NASA does not have the constitutional mechanism to say that there be no elections, Jubilee too does not have the domain to insist that the repeat polls will go on as directed by the IEBC "NASA has no mandate to say there can't be elections but so is Jubilee. They have no authority to insist that the polls will go on. In fact Jubilee should stop acting as if they are IEBC’s mouthpiece", he told Citizen TV's Opinion Court. The university don instead asked the two parties to have talks over the standoff so that the country can move on saying that they risked plunging the country into a crisis should they continue to disagree over the plans.
Whereas NASA maintains that no elections will not go on without reforms in the poll body, their Jubilee counterparts have dared them to make good their threat adding that they will proceed with the polls with president Uhuru Kenyatta as the sole candidate.
