Pwani University don Rocha Chimera has said Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's recent trip to the United State of America (USA) was a strategy to shed off the drug trafficking tag that has been haunting him for a long time.
Chimera termed the tour as a public relations stunt aimed at clearing the governor's name as he seeks to defend his seat in the next general election.Joho’s US tour comes a few weeks after he dared the national government to arrest him over drug trafficking claims. The Governor, however, denied involvement in the illegal business and accused the State of politicising the fight against drugs.“Joho is presenting an image to show that he is more than a capable leader, and with his eyes set for the presidency in 2022, he has all reasons to remove any stumbling block in his way,” said Chimera, as quoted by the Star.Chimera, who is also a political analyst, said Joho's tour to the US was not only tactical but also a bold move. “As politicians who were recently implicated in the drug trade refuse or fear to go to the US, Joho is walking straight into the lion's den to prove to all that he cannot be bitten,” he added.
