A good percentage of residents of this part of the nation have continued to express fear as we head to the August general elections.
Enock Makanga, the chairman Protective and Safety Association of Kenya notes that militia groups are out to satisfy their egos before, during and after the August general elections.
He also said that the terrorists want to shift the attention from the exercise when that time comes.
“The terrorists want to divert the attention of the security officers from the elections and have it focused on them. They like attention and when they see the media talking about them and the photographs of blown up vehicles, that is their joy. They feel that they have delivered their message,” he notes.
Makanga goes on to say that he is optimistic that the terror attacks will not stop residents of this region from taking part in the polls.
Political analyst Barrack Muluka, on his part, agrees with the findings, adding that the national and county governments have to work together to end the problem.
“In developed democracies, this should be a major issue for the national government under which the security dockets falls and also county governments. It should really matter in a properly functional democracy,” argues Muluka.
