The school, whose lessons resumed Monday after a whole week break, sent more than 1000 students home because they had not bought the cups and spoons recommended for their lunch hour meals.

The parents accused the school administration of being 'rude'.

“How do you waste a whole day asking the children to go home because they do not have cups? If it was school fees or any other requirement like tuition fee, it would have made sense. Now the students are not only traumatized but intimidated that they could not afford a cup,” said James kinyanjui, a parent.

Kinyanjui pointed out that many of the parents were not at home and were only called by their children from borrowed phones.

“Its even a security threat as we do not know what our kids are being exposed to once outside the school. Its inhumane for them to go home for such a minute thing,” said Esther Njambi, a parent.

A teacher, who sought anonymity as they are not allowed to speak to the press, pointed out the increased cases of stealing of utensils had forced them to take that step.

“many students have been skipping meals as they do not have what to eat from,”said the teacher
