A section of Garissa residents has reacted to the appointment of the 72-year-old former head of Public Service Francis Muthaura as chairman of the Kenya Revenue Authority by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The residents who spoke to hivisasa have reacted with mixed feelings to the appointment.
Scores have hit out at the president for appointing an old person to head a parastatal at the expense of more qualified youths.
Hussein Abdullahi, a shopkeeper, blamed the action taken by the president saying the position could have been given to an energetic and qualified youth in the country.
" The president has promised to create job for the numerous jobless youth in the country. But the question is, when will that promise come to pass when unproductive and old people are being employed at the expense of the youth," said Hussien.
Maryan Abdi, a former nominated MCA, claimed that the president has reneged on the promises he made to the youth during his campaigns.
"The president promised during his campaigns that he would create more jobs for the jobless youth in the country. We want the president to honour his pledges and employ youth instead of senior citizens who retired a long time ago," claimed Maryan.
Yussuf Khalif, a student, wondered why they are investing heavily in Education if their chance of getting employed diminishes every minute.
"I wonder what is the essence of learning when getting a job in our country is becoming impossible. Recycling of old people into the government jobs instead of hiring jobless youth in the country is not fair at all. We demand the president to rescind his decision of appointing Mathaura and replace with a youthful fellow," pissed Yussuf.
