Former postmaster general and managing director of Kenya sugar board General Francis Chahonyo has passed on while undergoing treatment at Karen hospital in Nairobi.
The 71 year old who hailed from Chavakali,Vihiga county and at one time served as AFC Leopards chairman had been admitted in hospital for two months and had at one point travelled to India to seek further medical intervention.
"Mzee has been sick. He has been in and out of the hospital. He once went to India for treatment and returned," stated one David Chitwa, an uncle who also doubles up as the family spokesperson during an interview with the nation.
Mr. Chahonyo has in the past been implicated in the famous Anglo-leasing scandal case in which the postal corporation of Kenya is said to have irregularly awarded a contract of procurement of network communication equipment to telecommunication company VSAT.
The deal was said to be worth ksh1.2 billion.
