Majority Leader Aden Duale has picked a fight with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i over suspected mercury sugar even as more contradictions emanated on Thursday.

While defending his involvement in the business, Duale accused Matiang'i of 'ruining' the economy over the deadly claims of mercury.

"Matiang'i is ruining the economy. He should have done thorough investigations to ascertain the so called chemicals in the sugar.

"Innocent people will lose revenue just because of his reckless remarks and he needs to apologise," he said.

Early this week, Matiang'i launched a crackdown on the suspected rogue traders, a mission which has so far led to seizing of over 20, 000 bags.

A secret letter to Industralisation CS Aden Mohammed from KEBS indicates that there were traces of mercury even though the minister and KEBS MD Charles Ongwae have since disowned their own findings.

DCI George Kinoti, who is a the center of the drama, insisted that the sugar was not fit for human consumption.
