An visibly agitated Mombasa governor Hassan Joho has accused Deputy President William Ruto of selfishness as the debate on referendum continues to heighten political temperatures.
While in Mombasa on Tuesday, Ruto dismissed calls for referendum which are being fronted by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
"Lazy people who do want to work hard, incompetent people want to use constitution a their bogey man," he said.
But on Thurday, Joho insisted that the referendum push was unstoppable adding that he will join troops with like minded people to ensure the constitution is amended.
According to the ODM deputy leader, fundamental changes to the constitution would enable even the minorities to have a chance to rule the country.
"The same people who wanted the document to be changed are now yelling loudest. They are now seeing the constitution as perfect," he said in reference to Ruto.
He added: "Nothing will stop us from pushing for the changes. Time has come for even the minorities to have a say in Kenyan leadership."
Although he is yet to make the proposals public, Raila is reportedly pushing for parliamentary system of government which will replace imperial presidency.
Ruto is among politicians who are keen to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, whose term expires in 2022 polls.
