Angry fishermen from Dunga area, Kisumu county, beat a crocodile to death, Tuesday evening.

This is after the crocodile ate the fish they had caught for the day.

According to the four fishermen, they had spent the whole day fishing and had managed to catch several fish.

They said when they were docking at Hippo Point, and dragged their net from the deep waters, they spotted a small crocodile in their net devouring their day’s meal.

The irate fishermen landed on the crocodile and beat it to death using clubs.

Efforts by the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to save the five-foot crocodile were fruitless.

“I was relaxing with my friends by the lake when I heard some commotion a few meters from where we were. By the time I reached the fishermen were already carrying the dead reptile like a trophy,” David Ngiri, a resident said.

One of the fishermen who seemed to be so furious took the reptile home vowing to eat its meat and sell its scales so as to recover what he had lost.

“I am going to eat this crocodile and sell its scales to recover the amount I have lost when it ate my fish,” the angry fisherman said.

“Now KWS should take action because it seems the parents of the small crocodile which was killed are still around,” Ngiri said.
