Just a day after Nairobi governor Mike Sonko came out to castigate State House officials of trying to undermine him, City Hall MCAs have come out to express their anger.
Speaking after news of the confrontations at Moi Air Base hit the social media, the MCAs took their support behind Governor Sonko and asked State House to respect the county boss.
The MCAs convened a press conference Saturday evening where they said that concerned parties must apologise.
“Today at Moi Forces Academy, it was very clear that Tobiko did not recognize the presence of Governor Sonko. Actually, this is not the first time that Sonko is being subjected to this kind of humiliation, we have just been silent about it,” said Waithaka MCA Anthony Karanja.
Speaking on behalf of his City Hall colleagues, Karanja said the county's development activities were being hampered because there was a scheme to paint Sonko as a non-performer.
“Nairobi County is not able to perform well because of the frustrations by the section of the Executive, but we are now not going to allow them,” he said.
His Mlango-Kubwa counterpart and chair of Ward Development Fund Patricia Mutheu said that disrespecting Sonko translates into disrespecting the 47 elected MCAs and all the residents of Nairobi.
“Disrespecting Sonko means disrespecting the MCAs, which means disrespecting the will of those who woke up early on August 8 to go and vote for them. We demand respect and we demand an apology,” she said.
