A suspected robber was on Saturday killed by an angry mob in Likoni, Mombasa.The suspect was lynched by residents at Mt Sinai area in Likoni after he was accused of stealing a car in one of the garages in the area.Likoni police chief Benjamin Rotich who confirmed the incident said the suspect was in the company of four other men when they broke into the garage.An alarm was raised alerting area residents who caught the suspect, beat him to death then set his body on fire.Rotich said the body of the deceased was taken to Coast General Mortuary waiting identification, adding that investigations into the incident have been launched.“We understand that they were in a group of five, one was caught and beaten to death before he was burnt. Four others escaped and police are pursuing them,” said Rotich, as quoted by Baraka FM.Rotich, however, condemned the incident saying it is illegal for members of the public to take the law into their hands.He said residents should have handed over the suspect to the authorities to avoid innocent people falling victim of mob justice.Rotich also put criminal gangs residing in the sub-county on notice, asking them to look for genuine business to engage in as their days were numbered.
