According to witnesses, the suspect, aged 35, sneaked into the house armed with a kitchen knife, threatened the girl and tried to rape her.
The house help was left in the house to attend to daily chores as the owner was away to attend church service.
The girl raised alarm, attracting passersby who came to her rescue, stoning the suspect to death.
Naivasha deputy county commissioner Isaac Masinde confirmed the incident and said police officers arrived at the scene only to find the suspect dead.
“Police could not manage to rescue the suspect from the angry mob. Members of the public are advised to surrender suspects to police instead of taking the law into their hands,” he said.
Masinde said the body of the suspect was moved to Naivasha sub-county hospital mortuary.
