Residents of Samburu on Wednesday staged demonstrations against ODM chief Raila Odinga condemning him for allegedly criticizing their local leaders. The angry protestors burned down Raila’s campaign posters and lit bonfires in solidarity with their leaders, whom they said were accused by the former Prime Minister of mishandling public funds. The protestors who chanted "we belong to Jubilee" slogans vowed to vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto in order to retain their seats come the 8th of August. According to Samburu West MP Lati Lelelit, the appointment of Principal secretary Richard Lesiyampe, nomination of Naisula Lesuuda's as senator and construction of a 10km pro -base tarmac road in Maralal town proves that Samburu has benefited from Jubilee’s leadership. The Samburu West MP also challenged Raila to accord respect to the leaders in the region if he also in return needs to be respected. “Raila was not received by any elected Samburu leader when he visited this place last week. It shows he cannot work with anyone here. We don’t want a leader like Raila who doesn’t show respect for our own,” said Jilisen Lenkupae, a protester quoted by the Star. The Opposition leader visited the county last week on Friday when he criticized the leaders of using public funds to purchase private property in the county as well as in Nairobi.
