Police lobbed tear gas canisters to disperse residents that were demonstrating over insecurity at Kwambira area, along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway in Limuru on Monday.
The residents barricaded the busy highway using burning tires, citing the high level of insecurity in the area, following an incident in which the body of man was found dumped in a bush early morning.
John Gachie, 43, was found dead near his home, next to a slaughterhouse by people who were going to work.
Police believe that the deceased was killed elsewhere and his body dumped near his home, since no blood stains or signs of physical struggles were spotted at the crime scene.
The deceased, a father of five who worked as a conductor with Mbukinya bus company, had injuries to his neck and head, and is suspected to have met his assailants while heading home.
“Insecurity has been high in the area and no day passes without a case of mugging or robbery being reported,” said Robert Njoroge, a shoe shiner at the centre.
This incident comes barely a month after another case where two people were stabbed to death in the area, among them a woman, who was alleged to have been killed by her former husband.
