A team of foreign investors were on Sunday shocked after they were met by hostile Marakwet residents.
The angry residents pelted the team with stones forcing the team to cut short its trip.
The Standard said the team was on a reconnaissance tour of Kipsaiya – the area proposed for the construction of a Sh35 billion multipurpose dam.
The investors were accompanied by officials from the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA).
Roberto Mezzalama, the head of the team said they were shocked by the incident.
"At first, we thought they wanted to welcome us but we were surprised when stones were pelted at us. They were shouting at us to return,” the standard quoted him.
Leaders have promised action against those who were involved in the incident.
“The incident happened on the Kapsowar-Chesoi road and on the proposed site of the dam. This is a sign of hooliganism and we are asking locals who feel they have a different opinion to use other ways of addressing them,” KVDA Managing Director David Kimosop
In December 2015, a public participation meeting to shed light on the dam's construction turned chaotic as groups clashed and pelted stones at each other.
