Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi had it rough on Monday after a section of angry voters stormed Rukenya Primary School in Gichugu and destroyed ballot materials at the polling stations during Jubilee nominations thereby denying him a chance to vote, reports Standard.

The local daily also reveals that the angry voters decided to destroy the materials as a sign of dissatisfaction after they discovered that some names were missing in the party register despite assurance of free and fair nominations by the top brass before Monday.

The voters are said to have invaded the polling station and chased away all the presiding officers and other officials from the place paralyzing the whole exercise.

Voting kicked off at Wanguru Girls Secondary School and Ngurubani Primary School polling centres at around 6pm, which has attracted criticisms from different factions.

Voters in different polling stations including Kabare Primary School, Ithareini market, and Kiringa Coffee Factory had to be patient until noon is when the exercise started.

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, who has joined the race to unseat Ndathi, lamented over the messed up nominations, arguing that she deserves compensation over the same.

"People are tired. We cannot ask people to come out for a third day," said Waiguru.
