Two senior politicians from Gusii region now want Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Angwenyi to apologise for allegedly lying to Deputy President that the community had agreed to support Jubilee government.
Angwenyi on Sunday told a gathering at Iterio in the presence of William Ruto that the region had agreed to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reelection in 2017.
But the remarks did not go well with veteran politician Abuya Abuya, who termed the remarks as ‘premature’ and accused Angwenyi of imposing himself as the community spokesperson.
“I am really disappointed with the direction taken by a few politicians. It’s unfortunate that Angwenyi can lie to Deputy President that the community had agreed to support Jubilee,” he said.
“His comments are premature and as a community, we deserve an apology from him. As far as I remember, no time the community had ever chosen him to be the spokesperson,” he added.
Abuya’s sentiments were supported by East African Assembly legislator Joseph Kiangoi, who challenged Angwenyi to hold a press conference and apologise to the community for allegedly misleading them.
“Jimmy (Angwenyi) is taking our community for granted. He should call a press conference and apologise for lying that leaders had sat and agreed to back Jubilee. We are tired with unprecedented board room decisions,” he said.
The Deputy President had earlier challenged Gusii leaders to disband Ford People party which is predominant in the region.
