Thika West Sub County Deputy Commissioner (DCC) Tom Anjere has banned politicians and their supporters from printing and carrying placards that portray offensive messages during campaigns.
Anjere says that police will arrest politicians and their supporters who print offensive messages on placards and display them during campaigns.
The Thika West DCC notes that some politicians print offensive messages to tarnish their competitors and opponents.
“As Thika security team, we have decided to ban using placards that portray offensive messages and by politicians and their supporters during campaigns,” he told journalists on Wednesday.
Anjere urged politicians to cooperate with the ban to avoid falling in the wrong hands of the law.
He said that police will be deployed to monitor every campaign meeting in the region as the country heads to the general election.
The DCC urged aspirants to request for security when planning for campaigns adding that any acts of hooliganisms in political campaigns will not be tolerated.
Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a who had earlier attended Anjere’s security meeting supported the ban saying that some politicians use placards with abusive messages to intimidate opponents.
“I think the directive by the DCC is good and will help curb instances where some politicians hurl insults on their opponents during campaign time,” she said.
