The DCC claims that some politicians in the area could be owning firearms illegally.

Speaking to journalists after a security meeting with area politicians on Monday, the DCC said that a crackdown on illegal firearms owners will be launched in Thika soon.

“We have information that some politicians own unlicensed guns which is against the law and we want to tell them to surrender before we pounce on them ,” he said.

The DCC asked owners to register their firearms or risk arrest and prosecution.

Anjere also warned civilians owning firearms illegally. He said that owners of unlicensed firearms colluded with criminals to instigate crime.

At the same time, the DCC asked politicians to conduct their campaigns in peace. He said that politicians will only be allowed to conduct their campaigns between 6 am to 6pm.

The DCC said that the move is meant to ensure security ahead of the forthcoming 2017 polls.

Politicians who attended the meeting agreed to abide by the law and help in preaching peace ahead of next year’s election.
