After the death of former Kwale Senator Boy Juma Boy in February 2017, the county finally has a new Senator - another Juma Boy.
The emergence of Issa Juma Boy who bagged the county senate seat after garnering 72,275 votes is a true confirmation that the Juma Boy family is a formidable political force to reckon with in Kwale.
After the death of his father in the run to the 1983 general elections, the late Boy Juma Boy, then 25, inherited his Kwale Central MP seat, later named Matuga.
He would later grow in political stature and subsequently became a key member of KANU when he was appointed the Chief Whip in Parliament.
During the 1988 elections, he easily defended his seat. However, his politically journey was cut short in 1992 when he lost the seat after a fallout with KANU top leadership.
He failed to recapture the seat in 1997 and 2002. And during the 2007 elections, he never contested for any position.
While vying on an ODM ticket, Juma Boy made a political comeback in 2013 when he won the Kwale County Senator position to end his 20-year stint in the political wilderness.
His unexpected death paved way for his younger brother, Issa Juma Boy, who is now flying the Juma Boy name that has reigned Kwale politically over the past four decades.
