Moments after High Court Judge John Mutivo, ruled that Thirdway Alliance presidential candidate Dr Ekuru Aukot be included in the October 26 fresh presidential election, another candidate has joined the race.
Independent presidential candidate Japheth Kaluyu, has hailed the court, saying he is in the race for State House.
Alongside his running mate Muthiora Kariara, Kaluyu who vied in the August 8 polls, before nullification of presidential results, said they were not satisfied with IEBC's move to allow only President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga, be the only candidates.
“The IEBC had based its decision to lock us out on the 2013 Supreme Court interpretation of what a fresh election means. But now that the High Court has quashed that and said we can all run, then Dr Kaluyu and I will definitely be on the ballot,” Kariara told Nation.
His move comes after Odinga withdrew his candidature, accusing IEBC and Uhuru's Jubilee governmnrt, of failing to acknowledge efforts to have a credible poll.
Odinga called for a new election.
But Aukot has said IEBC must ensure reforms, before he participates in the fresh election. He hailed the court, saying it had vindicated him, since IEBC had denied him the right to his democratic right.
