[Photo/ PSCU]Lamu Governor-elect Fahim YassinTwaha has rejected the Sh5 million set aside for his inauguration ceremony, which is scheduled to held on Friday at Mkunguni grounds.Twaha said it would not be wise to spend such a huge amount of money on the ceremony, considering there are several development projects that need to be initiated in the county. In a press statement on Wednesday, Twaha said he would prefer having a small ceremony outside the governor’s office, adding that spending Sh5 million in a one-day ceremony amounted to misuse of public funds.“Lamu residents are languishing in poverty. We need to work extra hard to ensure we change their lives and not hold celebrations with taxpayers’ money,” said Twaha. The Governor-elect also sent a stern warning to county officials, saying his administration will not tolerate embezzlement of funds.“I will not only send you home but also take you to court if you misuse public funds,” he added. He appealed to residents to support his administration and work together with the county government in a bid to solve the various problems facing them.“We should not allow our political boundaries to take over our zeal to serve the locals in Lamu. We should work very hard to change the county,” he said.“I am promising you development so let us get down to work,” he added.
