Royal Media Services journalist Boniface Wayne Nyongesa has announced his bid for the Bungoma Senatorial seat during the forthcoming general elections.
Mr Nyongesa had initially indicated that he would vie for the Bukembe East Ward seat.
Speaking on Monday, Mr Nyongesa, the head of Sulwe FM — a Bukusu vernacular station said he had to reconsider his options after the incumbent senator Moses Wetangula made it clear that he would go for the presidency.
“I have seen that the seat fell vacant after the current senator (Mr Wetang’ula) announced his presidential ambition. Those who are vying for the seat are not serious candidates,” he said.
He joins fellow journalist David Makali who is also seeking to replace Mr Wetang'ula on an ANC Party ticket.
Mr Nyongesa will vie on an ODM Party ticket.
The two will face Bungoma businessmen Juma Mukhwana who is gunning for the Senate's seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.
