Barely a week after a Standard Media journalist was killed in Malindi last week, the media fraternity has received another loss after a freelance photographer was on Wednesday night killed by suspected thugs at his home in Kitale.
Confirming the incident, area OCPD Wilfred Mogere said that 26-year-old Dennis Otieno was shot dead after three thugs invaded his home at almost midnight.
According to the Star, the thugs found Otieno's wife outside and forced her in before demanding that Otieno gives them a certain photo.
“The three demanded a certain photo before engaging him," said Janet Otieno, the wife.
"While trying to defend himself, they shot twice but missed. The third shot killed him," she added.
She also said that the gang made away with an unspecified amount of money and the deceased's camera.
The body has been taken to Kitale District Hospital as investigations begin.
