Just a few days after Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua dropped his bid of defending his seat as an independent candidate after loosing to Lee Kinyanjui in the Jubilee primary, another politician has withdrawn.

Former Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Thuita Mwangi has become the latest political aspirant to bounce out of the Laikipia gubernatorial race days after he was cleared by IEBC to vie.

The news of Thuita's pull out was announced by Laikipia county returning officer George Odhiambo.

"Last week we cleared three candidates for the gubernatorial seat. But one of them Mr Thuita has written to us that he will not be on the ballot anymore," said Odhiambo.

It is not yet known whether top organ in the Jubilee administration had a hand in Thuita's change of heart.
