Former Cabinet Minister Suleiman Shakombo has ditched Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM-K) party for President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party.

Speaking when he launched UhuRuto re-election campaign in Mombasa on Wednesday, Shakombo said he decamped from Kalonzo Musyoka-led party after realising it has no future in the Coast.

"The exit of Hassan Omar (who recently resigned as Wiper Secretary General) is a big blow to the party. Wiper cannot now survive in this region owing to the dominance of ODM," he said.

Omar quit the party recently accusing his party leader Kalonzo of 'betraying' him for supporting his rival Hassan Joho in the August 8 Mombasa governorship race.

Shakombo, who unsuccessfully vied for the Likoni parliamentary seat, vowed to conduct intensive campaigns for Jubilee to ensure President Kenyatta is re-elected to serve another term in the country's top office.

"I will team up with immediate former Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima to ensure we double votes Uhuru got in Likoni in the August poll," Shakombo told the People Daily.
